Group Description: For those artists whose main material is polymer clay.
Hi, I finally have been able to join this group. I am happy to be here. I have been working with Polymer Clay on and off for about 10 years. My latest and I think lasting project is making jewelry, about 90% of it with polymer clay beads and pendants. I started up on Etsy in August and have made 5 sales plus one outside order of 6 custom orders. And in a couple of weeks I have my first craft show at my church. Wish me luck. Joan
I too started in etsy in August, and have made 4 sales, the last three in just the past couple weeks. I hope your day at the sale goes well, waiting to hear all about it Joan!
Congratulations! I'm new here, too, but only learned about polymer clay about two years ago by chance. Before that I'd been using regular clay. I have to say, I like polymer clay a LOT, but at the same time there's just something about using normal clay and getting it all gooey and squishy. LOL. I hope you do great at your craft show!!

Question for everyone, have you noticed recently that the clay ( any brand really) is drier than it used to be? I have always sculpted using latex gloves and as far as I know they are being made differently, so I don't think that is why I am finding all my clay brands dry, even freshly bought. I have tried adding some translucent, some fimo softener as well as TLS, it makes it a bit more pliable but I am still afraid of brittleness after baking. So I am wondering is it me or something I'm doing or is it widespread and the clay in general? I mainly use water as a release or cornstarch but not too heavy at all. I only use Armour all if I know I won't be reusing the clay.
Hi Organic. In response to your comment about clays being dryer lately. I use Premo and have noticed that myself. I purchased 8 pearl Primos from an online supplier I have used often, and every one of them was hard to condition, no matter what, they kept cracking. Adding liquid clay helped only a little, the only thing that helps, is mixing in another color that is in better condition. I figured my supplier gave me old clay and I was rather annoyed. I also have noticed this with some other colors as well. Then, I open up one that I have had laying around for months and months, and it is fine. Go figure.
I normally use Sculpey and Fimo...I found that a few colors have been drier than usual, like the grey color I use. NOW recently I bought and used for the first time the lightweight Sculpey and that was sooo dry!! I couldn't even roll it into a ball! Im not sure if thats they way that type is or I just bought an old package...?
QUESTION FOR THE GROUP: Have you noticed there is a rating on each of our plumdrop pages? I noticed some have no rating. It doesn't specify rating on what so I think we could support each other and do a little promotion of at least one of our fellow group members, what do you say? Pick someone, who's work you feel you can honestly review and endorse and go do it!
I just finished my 1st wholesale order! It was a good experience....have any one you clay crafters sold wholesale before? How did it turn out?
I'm working on my second one ever. Glad to hear your's went well! : ) Do you plan on doing more?
No, not to date,it would be great for you to share your experience doing it with us so if the oppurtunity comes along we will be better informed! Thanks

Welcome aboard!!
Yeah, A Polymer Clay group!! : ) My name is Lisa and I sculpt Babies and Dolls out of polymer clay. Great to be here, I love this set-up!!
Hi Mojo! Tell us what kind you use and what you make. I have been doing this for about 15 years, but most actively for the last 5. Only this year did I fully get into exploring all the natural wonders of plants and veggies! and I am totally hooked! Like the possibilities with PC, this area seems to be never ending. I have spend most of the summer going back and forth between making pieces and making molds of the vegetation, before fall. I have so many ideas on my drawing board, I don't think I have enough hours in the day! So what do you make and how did you start? Oh, I use mainly Premo! and Fimo, and lately have been experimenting with Sculpys newest, Studio. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Also that goes for our other newly joined members! Please share what you make and how you got started using Poly Clay! Also who your favorite Poly Clay Artist is. I have a few favorites, Nan Roche, Doris Skinner, and Kim Cavendar is becoming a favorite lately too!
Good morning all! It's good to see more artists in here. I've been working with polymer clay for over 25 years, when FIMO was the only thing available in the miniature warehouse I used to go to with my parents. That's how I got started, by making miniatures for my mom and dad's doll house business. Back then the only books available was the original one from FIMO and the bread dough miniature instruction books. What do I do? Well let's see. I create ornaments, jewelry and decor, but my favorite pieces are my fantasy pieces and portraiture. I use pretty much all types of clay out there, depending on the project I'm working on. For my art dolls and portraiture I use Jack Johnston's Prosculpt. My influences are Maureen Carlson (whho inspired me to get started on portraiture), The Creagers, Jack Johnston, Katherine Dewey and Sue Haeser to name just a few. I haven't been daring enough to try Lisa Pavlevka or Soranje Helm's methods yet. I'd love to hear thoughts on the new studio clay for those of you who have tried it. I've heard rumors that it gets a little brittle after a couple of weeks?
HI CLAY PEOPLE!! I can't remember when I started using polymer clay, but it was when there were 3 choices of clay, and no internet. I really only became much more involved when I discovered Premo brand clay. I love soft mushy clay for sculpting. I'm Marpleartworks on etsy, but plan to change it to Trolltracks soon, either now or after Christmas. Maureen Carlson gives me the most inspiration, but I like so many of the top artists as well as those I see on etsy yet to be discovered!
I just started working with polymer clay and I'm already totally hooked!
Welcome all you Poly Clayers! I hope we can use this to help each other and support each other in sales, as well as in hints, tips and general support!
