Tips for Dressing Your Schoenhut Doll

Please visit my stores at www.gingersdolls.com & www.bonanzle.com/booths/GingersDolls

Hints for dressing and posing your Schoenhut Doll  (We are never too old to play dolls!)

Dresses, Union Suits and Drawers:  Schoenhut dolls often have nailheads or wire ends protruding from the body and limbs, that may snag knit stockings and unionsuits and delicate lace on clothing.  When dressing your doll, do so carefully, lifting the fabric away from these objects as you pull the garment on.
     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our stockings are custom fitted for each Schoenhut doll size to allow for better posing, and fit very snugly.
Pull stockings carefully over the foot, with sole seam lining up with big toe and center of heel.  This will put sole opening in correct position to place doll on stand.  To remove stockings, push top down to ankle and grasp fabric at heel and pull stocking off. They will slide off easily.
     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our shoes are cut from patterns of actual antique Schoenhut shoes, to insure that we make them as authentic as is possible.
The soles are more narrow than typical oval German type doll shoes, so that they fit your Schoenhut doll correctly.  We have made every effort to be sure that the sole grommets are installed smoothly with no flattening or bending.  Bent or flattened shoe grommets are the main cause for shoes not fitting Schoenhut stands.  Schoenhut shoes do not have tie eyelets, so please be careful to not pull so tightly that there is a strain on the leather.  Tip:  A thin teaspoon handle makes a great shoe horn!

Posing Your Schoenhut Doll On 'The Clearly Better' Stand
 If your doll has very good tight joints, you can have fun posing them in animated positions.   Not all Schoenhut dolls are able to stand alone, as some are very worn or have missing or weak springs. Please pose your dolls accordingly.
When posing your doll on the stand, please take the time to be sure that stocking and shoe opening are lined up accurately with the back hole of your dolls foot.   The forward hole of the foot will be offset slightly, so that it is often possible to stand your doll on its toe.
Sometimes one foot is more deeply drilled than the other. Occasionally a child has inserted a piece of crayon, pencil, or other object into the hole and you will need to remove the obstruction, or use the other foot for the stand.
When standing your doll, it is best if you will place them in a "military stance", with toes slightly outward, knees locked, and back straight. Then if your doll is able, you can carefully pose them in other positions.
